‘Ambitious’ €35m Lille striker being tracked by Liverpool
According to reports, Lille striker Jonathan David is being tracked by numerous teams, ‘including Liverpool’.
David joined the French outfit from Gent in August 2020, helping Les Dogues win the Ligue 1 title in his maiden season.
They beat Paris Saint-Germain to the league title, before defeating them in the French Super Cup at the start of this term.

During their title-winning campaign, David scored 13 league goals whilst playing in 37 out of 38 Ligue 1 matches.
The 21-year-old has been in excellent form in 2021/22, scoring 12 goals in 22 matches, including two in his last two Champions League appearances.
He is also a prolific striker for his country, netting 18 times in his 24 caps for the Canadian national team.
David is attracting the interest of numerous European clubs, with French outlet L’Equipe (via Sport Witness) reporting that Liverpool have been tracking the striker ‘for a while’.
The report claims that he was ‘high on their list of potential candidates’, but the Merseyside club opted to not make an approach.
Furthermore, the Lille man is ‘unlikely to stay at Lille next season for three reasons’. The first reason is due to the player’s ‘ambition’ to play in a more competitive setting.
David also believes he has proved himself in France and that ‘time has already come to aim higher’.
He will reportedly cost around €35million, which could go up if Lille progress to the knockout stage of the Champions League.
Meanwhile, Ian Rush has called for Liverpool to keep Joe Gomez, amid reports linking him with Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa, as he is a “quality defender”.
“Transfer rumours are beginning to circulate, as always at this time of year, and one of the names being linked with a move away from Anfield is Joe Gomez, who has struggled for gametime this season as he continues his comeback from a bad injury last season,” Rush said.
“Apparently Gerrard is interested in bringing him to Villa and I can see why – he’s a quality player and there’s no doubt he would strengthen Aston Villa, that’s all Stevie will have in his mind.
“But I think Liverpool would be wise to keep hold of him. There are always transfer rumours when the January transfer window is around the corner and it’s difficult to know what to believe, but I don’t see Liverpool looking to offload many players.”
