Xherdan Shaqiri believes that Manchester United “are vulnerable” in defence, and Paul Pogba has one particular weakness.
Stoke held United to a 2-2 draw on Saturday, with the Potters becoming the first club to take points from Jose Mourinho’s side this season.
Charlie Adam pinpointed Pogba as one player Stoke targeted, and Shaqiri has backed up those claims.
The Swiss international will be in the stands when United face Basel in the Champions League on Wednesday, and offered some advice to his former side.
“You have to play bravely,” he told Blick. “It does not matter if you lose. Man United have so much class in their attack.
“It will be extremely difficult for Basel. Especially at Old Trafford, where Manchester is much more dominant than abroad. Old Trafford is one of the best stadiums in the world.
“They have to be brave, risk something. Just defending will not be enough.”
Asked if United have any particular weaknesses, Shaqiri replied: “If they do it’s with their defence. That’s what our goals have shown.
“If you play quickly and bravely, their defenders will have problems. At the back, Manchester United are vulnerable.”
The Stoke winger was also asked about particular individuals, including Pogba.
“It’s hard to separate him from the ball,” Shaqiri said. “But he sometimes tends to keep the ball too long. Also, physically, he is very strong.”
