Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Everton duo Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Anthony Gordon.
You read that right, I am planning to sell the headline ‘Antoony Gordon’ to a tabloid newspaper when Anthony Gordon signs for Newcastle, and nobody can argue whether that’s a good plan.
Despite the fact Gordon and Calvert-Lewin are having woeful seasons, it is believed that Eddie Howe is keen to bring them both to St James’ Park.
The former had a breakthrough campaign in 2021-22 as he helped the Toffees avoid relegation from the Premier League.
Calvert-Lewin, on the other hand, has been dealing with a number of niggling injuries over the last two years and appears to have lost his scoring touch.
He was once a regular in the England squad and was frequently linked with a move to Arsenal for a fee in the region of £70million, but those days appear to past him due to the various injuries he has had.
Gordon has not scored in the Premier League since Everton’s last win which came against Crystal Palace on October 22.
As for Calvert-Lewin, he has one goal in 10 matches across all competitions after netting two during the second half of last season.
It is genuinely very difficult to imagine Newcastle making a move for either player given their excellent transfer business since Mike Ashley left, but there are plenty of rumours circulating.
Gordon is still young and Howe may see something in him, but Calvert-Lewin has been very poor of late after a year or so of looking very impressive.
First off, The Telegraph say Newcastle have nine players on their shortlist, including Gordon.
A new midfielder has been a priority, however, it is believed that Howe is desperate to bring in a new winger.
‘Depending on outgoings’ the Magpies could sign three new players before the end of the winter transfer window.
Newcastle had a bid to sign Gordon rejected last summer and have put the England Under-21 forward back on their radar.
It is said that Everton ‘may be more receptive’ this month given the 21-year-old’s form after being ‘desperate’ to keep hold of him with Chelsea also keen.
It is according to The Sun that Newcastle want to sign Gordon’s teammate, Calvert-Lewin.
The Toffees are ‘bracing themselves’ for bids for the England striker.
Newcastle ‘want’ him this month but are also willing to wait until the summer window.
Howe may accelerate his desire to sign Calvert-Lewin following Chris Wood’s move to Nottingham Forest, however.
A Sun source said: “Calvert-Lewin is at right at the top of the list of targets Newcastle have.
“They were interested in him last summer, and that interest remains.
“They think he could be a striker that could help take them to the next level both in the league, and in Europe.”
