Rumours that Arsenal have a ‘pre-agreement’ for Antonio Conte to take over from Mikel Arteta are “not true”, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Arteta is already coming under intense pressure this season after they got off to an awful start to their Premier League campaign.
The Gunners have lost all three of their Premier League fixtures to Brentford, Chelsea and Manchester City – failing to score a single goal in the process – but did win a Carabao Cup match against West Brom 6-0.
Some pundits have claimed that Arteta could even be out of a job as early as Saturday if Arsenal fail to beat newly-promoted Norwich City.
And a report in Spanish outlet Fichajes insisted that Arsenal and former Chelsea boss Conte had struck a ‘preliminary agreement’ with the Italian happy to take over in October.
The Italian manager was linked with the Gunners back in August too, while arch-rivals Tottenham were on the verge of appointing him in the summer before talks broke down.
And now transfer expert and journalist Romano has dismissed claims that Conte was being lined up for the Arsenal job.
He wrote on Twitter: “There’s absolutely no pre-agreement between Antonio Conte and Arsenal. Conte has no verbal/pre agreement with any club and he’s free. #AFC Federico Pastorello – agent close to Conte since years – confirms to @Freddie_Paxton: ‘Rumours about Arsenal pre-deal are not true’.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka said he couldn’t have wished for a better birthday after he scored in England’s 4-0 victory over Andorra on Sunday night.
“It’s the perfect birthday present for me, I’m really happy we got the win and I could celebrate my birthday like this,” Saka told ITV.
“I’m really happy with the reception everyone gave me, that meant a lot for me and made me want to give my all.
“I think it means a lot, it really made a difference for me, even just now I can hear fans cheering my name. It makes me believe everyone supports me through thick and thin and it’s nice.”
