Arsenal backed to be Man City’s ‘main competition’ as Liverpool ‘don’t look the same’
Arsenal have been backed to be Manchester City’s “main competition” for the Premier League title this season as Liverpool “don’t look the same”.
The Gunners have made a fantastic start to the 2022/23 campaign. This contrasts to the last term, as they lost their first three games.
Arsenal remain unbeaten in the league up to now as they have won their first five games. Next is a trip to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon to face Manchester United.
Big Weekend: Man Utd v Arsenal, Chelsea, Erling Haaland, Frank Lampard
Man City edged out Liverpool to lift the Premier League title at the end of the 2021/22 season.
Pep Guardiola’s side have been busy in the transfer market this summer, with Erling Haaland, in particular, making a massive impact.
The £51m forward has netted nine goals in just five Premier League games for City with him scoring two hat-tricks in a row in games against Crystal Palace and Nottm Forest.
City are currently two points adrift of Arsenal in the table heading into this weekend’s round of fixtures.
Liverpool meanwhile are seven points shy of Arsenal after two wins, two draws and one loss in their five games.
Last time out they were not entirely convincing as they beat Newcastle United 2-1. Their best showing of the campaign so far was against Bournemouth as they hammered the strugglers 9-0.
Bacary Sagna had spells at Arsenal and Man City during his playing career. He thinks the Gunners will finish higher than Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp’s team are not the same without Sadio Mane:
“I feel Arsenal can be the main competition to Man City for the Premier League title, who of course remain the very strong favourites,” Sagna told Betway.
“I don’t see any other team that can challenge them. Of course you can’t totally rule out Liverpool, but they have lost Sadio Mane and don’t look the same without him.
“Mane and Mohamed Salah complemented each other so well and were so consistent, I’m not sure Liverpool will be feared in quite the same way this season. I think teams are just paying the way they want to play rather than just working defensively to stop Mane and Salah.
“Having already dropped points it’ll be difficult for Liverpool to catch up.
“With Arsenal having made a perfect start it feels like they could be the main contenders to compete with this incredible Manchester City side for the Premier League title.”
