Arsenal coach reveals 15-minute chat with Wilshere

Arsenal coach Unai Emery claims that he had a 15-minute conversation with Jack Wilshere before the English midfielder decided to leave the club.

Wilshere left the Gunners for West Ham on a free transfer after a conversation with the incoming boss that confirmed that he would not be central to the Spaniard’s plans after the departure of Arsene Wenger.

“I spoke with him for 15 minutes here in Colney before he left,” said Emery, who will welcome Wilshere back to the Emirates on Saturday.

“The first thing for me is I have respect for his career here.

“And then, he chooses what the best was for him in his future. It’s for that, on Saturday, I know that here, the supporters like him and have this respect also.

“I think there is a good reception for him here. Then we are going to play and we are going to think after that, for us to win. But I hope the best for his career.”

Emery spoke about the challenge of facing West Ham after two defeats to Manchester City and Chelsea.

“It is clear, every game demands different things tactically. After the first two matches we have two defeats. We need to win this game against West Ham.

“But there are difficulties in this game. They are a good team, good players, good coach – he knows the Premier League.

“They have a lot of new players but we are thinking in our way and our work, to create our idea.

“We are preparing well I think. We are feeling well when I look at players in training.”
