Arsenal could potentially lose one of their most promising young talents Folarin Balogun next summer, as they ponder what to do with the £50m rated striker.
The 21-year-old has been in tremendous form this season, playing under Will Still for Reims in Ligue 1 and scoring a lot of goals.
As a result, Balogun has attracted interest from multiple clubs across Europe, with his future with the Gunners in doubt, according to reports.
Arsenal have enjoyed a fantastic first half of the season, currently sitting at the top of the Premier League table, five points clear of holding champions Manchester City, with a game in hand.
Indeed, this represents an excellent chance to clinch their first league title since 2004, but there is admittedly a lot of time remaining for things to change.
Many members of their squad are in the form of their lives. For example, Eddie Nketiah has scored seven goals in his last nine matches, while only Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne has registered more assists than Bukayo Saka in the Premier League this season.
But loanee Balogun has also been outstanding in France for Reims. The youngster is currently the top scorer in Ligue 1 this season, with 14 goals from 21 appearances so far, outscoring the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi.
But, according to the Sun, Balogun will face uncertainty when he returns to Arsenal in the summer.
His current deal at the Emirates is due to run out in 2025, so the Gunners need to make a decision: renew his contract, or sell while his price is at a premium, with reports suggesting he could be worth up to £50m.
Gabriel Jesus and Nketiah would likely keep Balogun out of Mikel Arteta’s starting XI, so because of that, they may look to offload him sooner rather than later.
The Sun add that Arsenal would ideally like to see how Balogun fairs next season, before loaning him out again in January if he fails to stamp his authority on the team.
The only issue with that, is that his value will only decrease if he fails to hit the heights in England. Especially due to the fact he would only have a year remaining on his contract.
But, Arsenal have succeeded with a similar approach in the past. In-form centre-back William Saliba spent last season on loan with Marseille, for example.
Arteta then had to decide whether to cash in or utilize him in his team. He opted for the latter, and it’s fair to say he’s been an overwhelming success.
Reims have already enquired about signing the Balogun permanently, but so far, the Gunners have rejected their requests.
Plenty of clubs are in the market for a young, proven goal scorer though, so there would be no shortage of interest in his signature if they do choose to sell him.
