Ligue 1 giants PSG are said to be ‘attentive’ to Gabriel Martinelli but Arsenal are only going to let him leave if they receive an ‘irresistible offer’.
Martinelli has grown to be an integral player for Mikel Arteta at Arsenal. His talent was quickly made clear after he joined the London outfit from Ituano in 2019.
Injuries have somewhat gotten in the way of his progress, but that has not deterred him too much.
Several Arsenal players have been playing out of their skin to make sure that they will be top of the Premier League at Christmas.
Martinelli is among the young players at the Emirates who have made headlines this term. It is becoming increasingly obvious that he is capable of becoming a world-class talent in the future.
The 21-year-old still has a lot of time to improve, but he already has five goals and two assists in 14 league games this season.
His form gave Brazil boss Tite no choice but to include him in his squad for the World Cup.
The decision to include Martinelli has been mocked by Brazilian pundit Neto, but the Arsenal man will be out to silence his naysayers in Qatar.
Brazil face Serbia on Thursday night in their tournament opener in Group G. They will also come up against Switzerland and Cameroon in the group stages.
Todo Fichajes are reporting that PSG ‘are attentive to Martinelli’ and they will ‘keep an eye’ on the attacker as the World Cup progresses.
The report states that Martinelli is valued at around €60m but Arsenal are ‘not going to let him go unless an irresistible offer arrives’.
Arsenal’s hierarchy are keen to tie Martinelli down to a new contract as his current deal is due to expire in 2024.
William Saliba and Bukayo Saka have also shone this term but both players are also due to be out of contract in 2024.
Like Martinelli, Saliba and Saka are competing at the World Cup. The latter made his first appearance in the finals of the competition on Monday as England hammered 6-2 Iran.
Saka was one of Gareth Southgate’s better performers as he netted twice in The Three Lions’ resounding victory in their group stage opener.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has told Arsenal supporters that “talks are ongoing” over a new contract for Saka.
“What a performance from Bukayo Saka as England beat Iran yesterday,” Romano wrote for Caught Offside.
“Both goals were of the highest quality, but could a strong World Cup affect his situation at Arsenal? From what I’m told – no.
“He was already considered one of their most important players and talks are ongoing over a new deal.”
