Arsenal “made an enquiry” for West Ham star Jarrod Bowen but talk of him moving to the Emirates is “hypothetical” as David Moyes is desperate to keep him at the London Stadium.
Bowen was in stunning form for West Ham last term, contributing 12 goals and 12 assists in the Premier League.
His displays earned him a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad and he’ll be hoping to secure his spot on the plane for the World Cup in Qatar this winter.
And he also caught the eye of Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.
So said the folks over at The Beautiful Game Podcast last month, who claimed Bowen was on the Gunners’ transfer shortlist this summer, and had made contact with Bowen’s people.
They tweeted: ‘Arsenal have opened contact with the representatives of Jarrod Bowen over a possible transfer. He’s amongst their list of potential transfer targets, which includes Leeds United’s Raphinha.’
The fact that Raphinha was still a possible buy for Arsenal tells you how long ago that rumour was, but there’s been surprisingly little gossip surrounding Bowen since.
West Ham have done very well to prevent any such transfer talk getting off the ground, both with Bowen and other prized asset Declan Rice.
And while CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has confirmed that Arsenal “definitely made an enquiry” for the England international, it’s a moot point as “West Ham don’t want to sell”.
He told GIVEMESPORT: “With Bowen, West Ham’s stance remains that they really don’t want to sell, so there’s a lot of clubs circling over Bowen, but the challenge, much like Declan Rice, is persuading West Ham to sell during this window and West Ham remain pretty intent not to let him go.
“So, there’s lots of excitement about Bowen moving potentially to a club like Arsenal, but it’s all hypothetical at the moment, because West Ham don’t want to sell.
“But Arsenal have definitely made an enquiry around Bowen to see what the situation is, but that’s what they’ve been told.”
West Ham will be competing on multiple fronts again this year having qualified for the Europa Conference League, and Moyes is working to improve the quality and depth of his squad.
As well as hanging on to their best players they’ve also spent signficantly this summer, with Gianluca Scamacca (£32.4m), Nayef Aguerd (£31.5m), Flynn Downes (£9.59m) and Alphonse Areola (£8.37m) all joining the club.
