Arsenal ‘expect’ star to sign new ‘long term deal’ as several bids were turned down to keep him

Fabrizio Romano has provided a fresh update on Reiss Nelson as Arsenal now expect the youngster to sign a new long-term deal this week.
Contract talks have been rumbling on for quite some time now between the club and Nelson’s representatives.
While the 23-year-old only played a bit-part role this season, he is still highly rated at the club and by Mikel Arteta.
Romano has clarified that the talks have progressed smoothly and he is now expected to pen a fresh deal.
“Arsenal expect Reiss Nelson to sign new long term deal this week,” Romano confirmed on Twitter.
“Agreement in principle reached on four year contract with option for further season. He received bids from Italian, French and also English clubs.”
This will surely come as good news to Arsenal fans as they hope to see more of Nelson in the future.
The 23-year-old featured in 11 Premier League matches this year, with all 11 games coming from the bench.
In that time he managed to score three goals and provide two assists to showcase his talents.
His best moment of the season came against Bournemouth back in March, when he scored a 97th-minute winner.
Speaking last October, Arteta backed Nelson to thrive after a loan spell with Feyenoord in 21/22.
“After the spell that he had last year on loan, we wanted him back to see if there are any changes, and there’s a prospect that we can really take to the next level,” Arteta told the club’s official website.
“We think the potential is there and we think we’ve seen something in Reiss that is special.
“He’s been a part of our academy system and now he’s going to have an opportunity. He’s been out for almost three months with an injury, he’s back now, he’s fully fit and he’s ready to play. He just needs minutes now.
“His attitude and the way he’s matured and evolved over the past year or so has been really impressive, I think everybody is talking about it and now he needs to do it on the pitch.”
Nelson will be hoping to nail down a more consistent spot over the next few years at the club.
Capable of playing on either wing, you can see why a manager like Arteta will want to keep Nelson around for the foreseeable future.
