Arsenal explain what new Barca appointment will bring

Arsenal have appointed Barcelona director of football Raul Sanllehi as the club’s new head of football relations.

The club confirmed the appointment of Sanllehi on Tuesday after over a month of courting the Barcelona director.

Sanllehi had spent 15 years at the Nou Camp, nine of which had come as director of football.

He played an influential role in the club’s transfers, including the deal which saw Neymar join from Santos in 2013.

His appointment is part of the process of replacing previous transfer guru Dick Law, who left the Emirates earlier this season.

“In the past three years we have supplemented our team with more top-class expertise across every aspect of our football operations,” chief executive Ivan Gazidis said.

“Raul’s appointment is another important step in developing the infrastructure we need at the club to take everything we do to the next level. Raul has extensive contacts across the football world and has been directly involved in some of the biggest transfers in Europe in recent years. We look forward to him bringing that expertise to Arsenal.”
