Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is looking to extend Dani Ceballos’ loan from Real Madrid for another term, according to reports from the Evening Standard.

Ceballos joined Arsenal last summer and endured a tough start at the Emirates before putting in some bright displays towards the end of the season.

He scored the winner against Sheffield United back in June to send Arsenal into the FA Cup semi-finals. He’s expected to start against Chelsea in the final this weekend.

The Spaniard is now open to staying at the Emirates for another season, with Arteta also on board.

Real Madrid are looking to sell the playmaker permanently as he failed to make an impact during his two seasons at the Bernabeu. He signed for them in 2017 after rising through the ranks at Real Betis.

Earlier in July, Madrid told the North London club they would have to pay £23 million for Ceballos. He’s also wanted by Valencia and former club Betis, so Arsenal may have to move fast to get their man.

Real manager Zinedine Zidane is unlikely to need to the midfielder as his midfield already boasts the likes of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Isco. The Spanish club are also in the running to sign Rennes wondered Eduardo Camavinga.

However, with the pandemic showing a significant impact on clubs’ finances, they may have to wait for another year before receiving a transfer fee.

Ceballos could be one of numerous players to leave Madrid in the next two seasons. Striker Luka Jovic has endured a torrid time at Real, scoring just twice this campaign. Gareth Bale, Dani Gomez and James Rodriguez are all rumoured to be wanting out too.

It looks Ceballos has enjoyed the Premier League run-in and could be set to stay in London.
