Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has revealed Arsenal made attempts to sign Gonzalo Higuain this summer.

The Gunners have often been linked with Higuain, only for Juventus to sign the Argentina striker in a €90million deal.

Arsene Wenger bolstered Arsenal’s attacking options this summer with the signing of Lucas Perez from Deportivo, although it appears he had more illustrious targets.

“I think we received some requests from Arsenal. Personally, I also received a request from Atletico Madrid,” Laurentiis told Standard Sport.

“But they didn’t put enough money on the table. We were not ready to sell him – for me Higuain was not for sale.”
