Arsenal were told firmly that Brendan Rodgers would not be leaving Leicester City, according to a report.

Unai Emery was sacked on Friday morning after their 2-1 loss at home to Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday that took their winless run in all competitions to seven.

A host of names have been mentioned as possible successors to Emery with the likes of Max Allegri, Eddie Howe, Carlo Ancelotti and Nuno Espirito Santo mentioned.

Charlie Nicholas urged Arsenal to bring in Rodgers “now” in an interview with Sky Sports on Friday but it could cost the Gunners a hefty fee.

Rodgers ruled himself out of the running for the Arsenal job on Sunday by saying he was staying at Leicester.

And The Athletic claims Rodgers has been ‘back in their thoughts’ after he was considered by the Arsenal board in their search for Arsene Wenger’s replacement in 2018.

The Athletic say they have been ‘told he will not be leaving Leicester City’ after the Gunners made ‘tentative enquiries’.

A ‘clear message’ was ‘relayed’ to Arsenal ‘that Rodgers is happy and going nowhere’.
