Arsenal have ‘derisory’ late defender bid ‘laughed off’

Arsenal had a ‘derisory’ offer for Jonny Evans ‘laughed off’ by West Brom on transfer deadline day.

Arsenal courted Evans throughout January after deciding that their defence needed reinforcements for the second half of the season.

The move looked in doubt after West Brom secured Daniel Sturridge on loan from Liverpool however, thereby lessening their need to bring in funds for their own improvements.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal had hopes of signing Evans as late as Wednesday, when they approached the Baggies with a ‘derisory’ offer.

West Brom subsequently ‘laughed off’ the bid, which ‘fell well short of their asking price’.

Alan Pardew warned them not to leave it late.

The well-connected John Percy at the Daily Telegraph tells us more. He says the offer was one of £12m, and that it was ‘a very brief conversation’.

£12m! Hahahahahaha!
