Arsenal January target admits he wants to leave this summer

Arsenal have been given a boost in their potential pursuit of long-term target Yannick Carrasco.

Carrasco was linked with an Arsenal move in January, with the club targeting him after failing to sign Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan.

Arsenal negotiated with Dalian Yifang to try and either bring Carrasco in on loan for the rest of the season or permanently, but left it too late in the window to seal a move.

The Gunners could revisit their interest in the summer when funds are more freely available, and Carrasco is already busy fluttering his eyelashes to try and get out of the Chinese Super League.

“I would love to return to Europe. A lot of clubs were interested in me,” he said.

“We tried to find a solution in January that would enable me to leave Dalian Yifang. But I can understand the club’s thinking. They wanted me to stay.

“I still feel OK in China. But I have lost my starting place in the Belgian national side. This can happen with a team of their quality.

“With the level of competition there will always be times when you don’t get to play a lot.”
