Arsenal legend Lee Dixon has agreed with claims that one of Tottenham’s summer signings is among the signings of the season.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been praised by Dixon for his performances for Jose Mourinho’s side this campaign.

The midfielder signed for Southampton in 2016 after making 25 first-team appearances for Bayern Munich between 2012 and 2016.

The Danish international signed for the Saints for around £13m on a five-year-deal. He spent four years in the Premier League and he was consistently one of their best players during this time.

Hojbjerg made 134 appearances for the Saints prior to leaving ahead of the 2020/21 campaign. Spurs swooped this summer to sign him for a fee in the region of £15m plus add-ons.

He struggled in his Premier debut for Tottenham as they lost 1-0 to Everton. But he soon returned to form and he has been one of Jose Mourinho’s most consistent performers this season.

The 25-year-old has already totted up 25 appearances for Spurs in all competitions. He has made Mourinho’s side a lot more solid defensively.

Spurs have the second-best defence in the league this season. They have only let in 15 goals from their 16 games. This tally is only bettered by Man City, who have conceded 13 from their 15 Premier League outings.

Hojbjerg has impressed a lot this term, and his performances have garnered praise from Arsenal legend Lee Dixon. On Twitter, Dixon “agreed” with the opinion of The Times chief writer, Henry Winter, who claimed that at £15m, Hojbjerg has been one of the signings of the season.
