Arsenal legend questions Liverpool striker’s decision

Daniel Sturridge has made the wrong decision by choosing to join West Brom over Newcastle, according to Ian Wright.

Sturridge secured his departure from Liverpool in a loan until the end of the season on Monday.

He had the choice of West Brom, Newcastle or a move abroad, but decided to move to the relegation-battling Baggies for family reasons.

Wright has questioned the move, however.

“Being a Newcastle hero is different to being a West Brom hero, with all due respect,” Wright told BBC 5 Live’s Monday Night Club.

“We are talking about a set of fans that when you are wanting to get a lift when you are playing because you haven’t had love for the last three or four years; to me, if I was in his position right now, I would have chosen Newcastle.

“Watching Newcastle recently, they have missed a lot of chances – chances I believe he could have taken.

“If they had taken those chances then the player who are providing those chances would then continue to try and take them.

“So I think going to Newcastle with that roar, he could have really galvanised them.”
