Arsenal legend Sol Campbell is reportedly the ‘leading contender’ to replace Mark Warburton as Queens Park Rangers manager.

Campbell is a former teammate of current Rangers technical director, Les Ferdinand.

Are Manchester City failures if they beat Liverpool to the Premier League title?

He has previously managed Macclesfield and Southend United in League Two and was unable to save the latter from relegation in his most recent managerial stint.

During his time in charge of Macclesfield, however, the 47-year-old guided the Silkmen to survival having inherited a team bottom of the football league.

Campbell was recently linked with the England under-21 job before Lee Carsley took over from Aidy Boothroyd last year.

Multiple reports suggest that the former England defender is QPR’s number one managerial target following the departure of Warburton.

TalkSPORT claim that MK Dons boss Liam Manning and Newport County’s James Rowberry and Tim Sherwood are also on the Championship club’s shortlist.

Ex-Arsenal centre-half, Campbell, has spent two years away from management after leaving Southend in 2020.

Elsewhere, former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara has backed the Gunners to “crumble” against Newcastle on Monday night.

Arsenal need a win at St James’ Park to remain in the driving seat ahead of Spurs for a place in the top four.

If they do come out on top against the Magpies the race for a place in next season’s Champions League will go down to the last day. Arsenal host Everton on Sunday, meanwhile, Spurs are at Norwich.

O’Hara said: “Arsenal are going to crumble tonight. Howay the lads. I’m very confident Newcastle will get a result tonight. It’s pressure time for Arsenal and it’s a tough game.

“We saw yesterday with Tottenham, that was a tough afternoon. The pressure was on and there were nervy moments. Arsenal have to win and it’s a big, big night.”
