Mikel Arteta says Mesut Ozil is still in the “same position” as he was two weeks ago as he attempts to get back in the Arsenal team.
Ozil, who signed a new deal in 2018, has not played a minute of football since the resumption, and speculation remains over his future at the Emirates.
He has not been used in Arsenal’s eight post-lockdown matches but did make it onto the bench for their fixtures against Southampton and Brighton in late June.
Arsenal boss Arteta had previously given Ozil hope of playing before the end of the season, he said: “Players can adapt to different systems and we can adapt systems for different players,
“Sometimes it is not just about what we want to play or how we want to play.
“Sometimes we have to field the players we have available in the right moments, in the right positions, to perform and be comfortable to do what we require.
“There is always a place for a player of his quality.”
However, when asked on Sunday if Ozil was still part of his plans, Arteta told journalists: “He’s still in the same position as he was last week or two weeks ago.
“And we said that we would manage everything internally.”
When pushed further on what he meant by that, Arteta added: “That I have nothing to say”.
