Reported Arsenal target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic complains to the referee

Arsenal and Newcastle are the only Premier League sides currently in for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to reports.

The Serbian international joined the Biancocelesti from Genk for around £10m in 2015 and has been a mainstay in their team ever since.

Chelsea interest in Sterling and Jesus doesn’t mean they’re settling for third place

He has made 294 appearances for the Serie A side, scoring 58 goals and providing 51 assists, as per Transfermarkt.

Manchester United have been long-time admirers of the 27-year-old and are unsurprisingly linked with a transfer this summer.

However, Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport (via the Daily Mail) claim their interest has been reduced after Erik ten Hag’s arrival from Ajax.

The Dutch manager is focusing on signing Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong and reportedly had a breakthrough in his pursuit of the former Ajax playmaker.

Lazio have been able to keep hold of Milinkovic-Savic due to their asking price, with the player not kicking up a fuss about the club’s valuation.

After asking for between €70-100million, the Lazio hierarchy are now willing to let the Serbian leave for €65m, which is the ‘maximum’ amount the player’s representatives think he is worth.

Currently, no proposals have exceeded €50m, with the Italian outfit’s lack of Champions League football making it hard for them to negotiate a higher price.

Milinkovic-Savic is out of contract in two years’ time and Lazio are very reluctant to let him leave on a free transfer.

There is no interest in Italy, meanwhile, French champions Paris Saint-Germain should not be ruled out. Given Ten Hag’s transfer approach, the only Premier League sides believed to be in for the midfielder are Newcastle and Arsenal.

Whilst United should not be ruled out completely, the Gunners are reportedly ‘willing to’ pay €50m, but could ‘possibly approach’ €60m.

The Magpies, on the other hand, have unlimited funds and will be able to meet Lazio’s valuation should they wish to do so. The Geordies have ‘come forward in recent months’, however, Milinkovic-Savic ‘does not like it’ and wants to join a ‘top club’.

The report claims that he does not want to join Arsenal or Newcastle as he looks to play Champions League football. However, ‘there are no other solutions’ unless he decides to join either Premier League side.
