Arsenal are eyeing PSG defender Thilo Kehrer as a replacement for David Luiz, who looks set to leave this summer, according to reports.
The 34-year-old is in his second season with Arsenal. He joined them from Chelsea for around £8m ahead of the 2019/20 season.
The centre-back has played 73 times for the Gunners since he made his move. A switch to the MLS could be on the horizon for the Brazillian this summer.
Kehrer signed for PSG for around €37m from Bundesliga side Schalke in 2019. He has featured 92 times for them across all competitions since then.
But he has only started 15 games in Ligue 1 this season. He was also left on the bench for both legs against Bayern Munich and Manchester City in the Champions League.
French outlet Le10sport have reported that Arsenal have already placed an £8m bid for Kehrer ahead of this summer. It is expected that the Gunners will have to pay much more than that if they are to sign the German defender.
Meanwhile, Arsenal were knocked out of the Europa League by Unai Emery’s Villarreal on Thursday night.
“It’s a huge job at this football club. (Arteta’s) inexperience has perhaps cost him,” Keown told BT Sport.
“He’s still manager, but it felt this was the rescue package and his players didn’t turn up. He was outsmarted by the previous manager which is a bit of an embarrassment.
“Arsenal looked lost. We couldn’t get out and they made us nervy. We haven’t really laid a glove on them and we haven’t gone down fighting.”
On Arteta, Keown added: “You have to be a quick learner as a manager. I’m not saying he isn’t going to be manager of the club, that’s a decision that will be made through the summer.
“It will have to be an incredible start to next season if he is to stay in the job. He’s under huge pressure now. Big decisions to be made at the football club.”
