Arsenal legend Ray Parlour is “pleased” that Spurs managed to beat Manchester City 3-2 over the weekend as it has blown the title race wide open.

Eep Guardiola’s side seemed on an unstoppable march towards another title after a 15-game unbeaten run but an incredible 3-2 win by Antonio Conte’s men – inspired by two goals from City’s summer target Harry Kane – put Liverpool within striking distance.

Liverpool’s come-from-behind win against Norwich means that City’s lead at the top is down to six points, with the Reds holding a game in hand and the two sides still have to play each other.

Premier League winners and losers

Despite being an Arsenal fan, Parlour was pleased to see Spurs get the win at the Etihad to make the Premier League title race “really interesting”.

“I don’t think anybody gave them any chance of getting anything,” Parlour told talkSPORT. “To score three goals away at Man City was amazing. That was the performance of the weekend.

“I know Watford won and that was a good result, Burnley going to Brighton, but you have to say Spurs going to Man City.

“I’m pleased, in a way, because I want the title race to keep going. The more it goes on an Man City keep winning and you think will Liverpool slip up.

“Suddenly, it’s going to be really interesting. That Liverpool vs Man City game in April could be the crunch game.””

After Spurs beat City, Parlour added on the title race: “It’s back on definitely. I don’t think Liverpool would have given up anyway. As we saw from this weekend’s results, all you can keep doing is winning your games and hopefully you’ll get a result like Spurs got.

“The players [at Liverpool] are very experienced and will say ‘let’s try and get every single point on the board and put pressure on the opposition’.

“That’s what they’ve done. At one stage, Norwich went 1-0 up against Liverpool and you were thinking it could definitely be over.

“You know with the attacking ability that Liverpool have got they are always going to score goals.

“Man City will definitely be slight favourites, but you can’t write off Liverpool as they’ve been there and done it.

“It should be an excellent end to the season. You have to look at that game on April 9. That’s going to be the big game.

“If Man City can win that on, and keep winning games up to that, that should finish the title off.”
