Kevin Campbell has backed Bukayo Saka to sign a new long-term contract at Arenal which will see him become one of the club’s highest earners.

Saka has been named as Arsenal’s player of the season in consecutive years and is regarded highly by Mikel Arteta.

The 21-year-old was recently named as the England Men’s Player of the Year and beat the likes of Harry Kane and Declan Rice to the award.

His current deal with the Gunners is set to expire in the summer of 2024 and Arsenal are keen to tie him down to a new lucrative contract.

Former Arsenal forward Campbell has shared his thoughts on the situation and he believes Saka deserves to be a top earner at the club.

Campbell explained (via Football insider): “Saka has been player of the season for the past two years. It is ridiculous what this man has achieved at such a young age.

“Saka is not the best paid player at Arsenal right now. He deserves to be up there with the top guys.”

It has been suggested that his new deal could be worth around the £200,000-a-week mark, which would see him become one of the top earners at the club.

Despite only being 21 years old, Saka already has a wealth of experience and has played in over 100 Premier League matches for Arsenal.

Due to his role in the England setup, Saka has often drawn comparisons to Man City’s Phil Foden.

Saka’s new deal would see him earning less than Foden currently does at Man City, but Campbell doesn’t think that should matter.

He added: “He needs to help Arsenal win silverware. That is what will take him up to the real heights.

“Perhaps that is why Phil Foden is worth that little bit more.

“He has proven that over the past few years. He has won a lot of trophies.

“There is not a lot of difference between the two contracts though, let’s be honest. It shouldn’t matter that it is a bit less than a Foden.”

Arsenal currently sit top of the Premier League and are one point ahead of Man City.

Mikel Arteta’s side have made an excellent start to the new campaign and are keen to reward some of their top performers.

Gabriel Martinelli is also in negotiations for a new contract, although reports suggest the deal isn’t close as things stand.

Saka has had a good start to his season and has scored three goals and got four assists in the opening nine matches of the season.

The 21-year-old scored a brace against Liverpool at the weekend and is a fan favourite with the fans.
