Arsenal are ‘pushing hard’ to land Eduardo Camavinga this summer amid concern they may miss out on Houssem Aouar.
The Gunners were thought to be close to landing Aouar from Lyon last summer but were unable to meet the French club’s valuation.
And it now appears they will be battling with Atletico Madrid to secure his signature.
That’s according to Le 10 Sport (via Caughtoffside), who claim Atletico have a better chance of landing the playmaker due to their involvement in the Champions League next season.
And Arsenal’s lack of European competition could also be a problem for Camavinga, though Mikel Arteta and Edu are now said to be ‘pushing harder’ for the Rennes star.
The 18-year-old – who has been likened to Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira – is thought to be valued at between €40million and €50million, though Arsenal may have to pay more if the expected bidding war ensues.
Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid have all been linked with a move for the teenager.
The Gunners are also thought to be close to completing a move for Belgium starlet Albert Sambi Lokonga.
The 21-year-old could be a direct replacement for Granit Xhaka, who is apparently a transfer target for Roma.
Lokonga made 27 league appearances for Anderlecht last season, scoring three goals.
Arsenal reportedly had a £12million bid rejected for the midfielder last week, with the Belgian club holding out for £17m.
Belgian publication HLN claimed that the bid had been rejected, but also stated that the transfer was ‘inevitable’.
He is capable of playing as a defensive midfielder or in a box-to-box role, with Mikel Arteta said to be particularly impressed by his passing range and ability to drive forward with the ball.
“I will not go to a club which is inferior to Anderlecht,” Lokonga told Belgian media last month.
“I will only leave Anderlecht if all the ingredients are there. Yes, I feel ready to take a step forward and rub shoulders with great players, but everything will depend on the proposals that will be made during this summer.”
