Arsenal ready to cash in on £5m star with Premier League club now in ‘advanced talks’
Arsenal are seemingly ready to cash in on Auston Trusty following a successful loan spell with Birmingham City in the Championship last season.
The Gunners have added to their defensive ranks this summer with the addition of Jurrien Timber from Ajax.
With Mikel Arteta having plenty of defensive options to rely upon, it is now being reported that Arsenal are willing to sell Trusty.
The USA international joined Arsenal in January 2022 from Colorado Rapids and has not made a senior appearance under Arteta.
According to Lyall Thomas from Sky Sports, Sheffield United are now in pole position to land his signature.
“SheffieldUnited are in advanced talks with Arsenal over a deal for USA centre-back Auston Trusty,” the journalist revealed on Twitter.
“Fee in region of £5m has been agreed. Expected to travel for medical in coming days once deal is finalised.”
The 24-year-old has featured for Arsenal during pre-season, but now looks set to make a move to Bramall Lane.
Getting a deal over the line for Trusty will be a big boost to Sheffield United and their survival chances for the upcoming season.
Birmingham manager John Eustace lauded the defender for his impact last season while on loan in the Championship.
“He is very robust, he is an athlete, very fit, a top professional, he has come over from the States and he is just living football,” Eustace told reporters.
“He has got no distractions. He goes home, watches football, comes back, plays football, eats the right stuff. He is a true professional and I think him coming back in the team last week – what a difference it made.
“All I can say is I would love to keep him at the football club and I think all the fans would love to see him stay at the football club as well. When we want to build those are the kind of characters we want here so he would be top of my list.”
It’s a shame that the 24-year-old never really got his chance at Arsenal, but Arteta won’t be complaining if they can flip a quick profit on the defender.
