According to reports, Arsenal ‘will make a new offer’ for West Ham star Declan Rice amid interest from Premier League champions Manchester City.

It has already been confirmed that Rice will leave West Ham this summer after he helped them win the Europa Conference League.

He has been Arsenal’s top target since the January transfer window as it is their priority to improve their midfield this summer.

West Ham have rejected Arsenal’s opening offer for Rice and Man City are now said to be ‘actively exploring’ a potential deal for the midfielder.

It has also been claimed that Arsenal are facing a ‘war’ for Rice as a second ‘top club’ are expected to make a bid for the England international in the ‘next 24 hours’. Manchester United and Chelsea have also been linked with the midfielder in recent months.

The Guardian are now reporting that Arsenal’s next offer for Rice ‘will come close to matching West Ham’s £100m valuation of the midfielder’.

Man City are ‘expected to enter the running’ but Rice ‘remains set on joining Mikel Arteta’s side and the expectation is that he will move to the Emirates Stadium’. The report adds.

‘There is a feeling there that Arsenal’s second proposal will still contain add-ons that are unlikely to be triggered.

‘West Ham’s hand would be strengthened by a bidding war. A source predicted that an offer from City would “blow Arsenal out of the water”. Rice spoke to Pep Guardiola before the end of the season and the prospect of City entering the race could complicate matters for Arteta.

‘Despite the growing tension between Arsenal and West Ham, the likelihood is that Rice will make the switch. He admires Arteta’s style of football and there will be no issue over personal terms.

‘Another factor is that Rice, who became a father last year, would prefer to stay in London and be close to his family. He also knows that he would be a regular starter at Arsenal, whereas the competition for places at City would be much fiercer.’

Last week, Stan Collymore called on West Ham standout Rice to join Man Utd over Arsenal this summer.

“Declan Rice needs to go somewhere where he’s going to get the opportunity to be tested, put under pressure regularly both mentally and physically,” Collymore told CaughtOffside.

“Where he gets the opportunity to grow under a progressive coach. I know that the suggestion has been Arsenal but I think Man United is a better option.”
