Arsenal and Wolves are hoping to sign Valencia forward Maxi Gomez in 2021 for a reduced price, according to a report.

Valencia are currently in the process of selling first team players as they look to increase funds.

Gomez has a release clause of £125 million, but it’s thought that Valencia will be open to selling him for much less than that.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal and Wolves are two of the main clubs aiming to sign the 24-year-old.

He’s also being monitored by numerous other clubs, but it looks like the two Premier League sides are the favourites to launch a bid.

Arsenal talisman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is now aged 31, meaning club officials might be looking at a long term replacement.

Gomez has scored 73 goals in 180 matches during his career, which shows his efficiency in front of goal. He could make the Gunners a more effective force going forward too.

Meanwhile, Wolves are reportedly interested in Gomez to provide manager Nuno Espirito Santo with an extra option up front.

He is without striker Raul Jimenez for the foreseeable future as the Mexican recovers from a severe head injury against Arsenal.

In the meantime, Santo can use recent signing Fabio Silva in attack. He could also put Pedro Neto or Daniel Podence in a more central position. But having Maxi Gomez as an alternative to Jimenez would surely improve his Wolves squad.

It’s unclear right now how much either team would have to pay for Gomez. His release clause stands at £125 million, although Valencia are open to selling him for much less.

They’ve sold a host of good players this year as part of a major shake up. Club captain Dani Parejo left for rivals Villareal in a transfer which caused plenty of controversy.

Ferran Torres joined Man City for £20 million, which now looks like a bargain for Pep Guardiola.

Valencia could sell another top player in the near future with two Premier League sides at the front of the queue.
