Arsenal’s new signing Pablo Mari is confident in facing Premier League stars like Mo Salah and Sadio Mane, as he’s done it before.

Central defender Mari was in the Flamengo side that shut out Liverpool over 90 minutes in last month’s Club World Cup final in Qatar, before Roberto Firmino scored the Reds’ winner in extra-time.

The Spanish defender has now joined the Gunners on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent move, and is relishing another meeting with the Liverpool pair.

“It was a great experience. It was really exciting to play against a big club and I think I performed really well,” Mari told the Arsenal website upon completing his deal.

“At the end of the day, they’re just people like everyone else. Obviously they’re in great form at the moment and they’re among the best players in the world, but we also have a fantastic team with top players.

“This is football and that’s the way you have to look at it. You have to compete against every side, whether it’s Liverpool or any other club in the world.

“I have a lot of faith in this great club, Arsenal , and I know we’re going to do very well.”

The 26-year-old also reiterated his happiness at joining the club, after it appeared the deal had stalled.

“I’m happy to be here today and to have signed for a big club. I’m going to do my best to help my team-mates and the club,” he said.

“When I spoke to my agent, it was a big thing that Arsenal were interested in me. This is one of the best clubs in the world, so I’m absolutely delighted to be joining.

“I’m really looking forward to playing in this jersey and helping my team.”
