Arsenal have been given a “slim to no chance” of signing Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic in the January transfer window, according to one journalist.
The Gunners are looking to strengthen in a number of areas during the winter if they can find the right player at the right price.
Mikel Arteta has led his side to the top of the Premier League table with Arsenal eight points clear of second-placed Manchester City, who play their game in hand tonight against Chelsea.
And January seems like the perfect opportunity to cement their status as Premier League leaders with Arteta keen to bring in another forward.
Gabriel Jesus was injured at the World Cup and is expected to be out for months, rather than weeks, in a big blow to Arsenal but Eddie Nketiah has so far managed to fill in nicely.
Nketiah has scored two goals in the Gunners’ three Premier League games since the World Cup break but Arsenal would be without a recognisable striker if the 23-year-old was banned for injured.
And that has led to several strikers being linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium with Arsenal again linked with a move for Vlahovic after missing out on the Serbia international to Juventus last winter.
Reports have claimed that Arsenal still have Vlahovic on their ‘radar’ with Juventus struggling a bit this season, although they have recently climbed up to third in the table.
CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs recently revealed that there is a “very real possibility” that Vlahovic will leave Juventus in 2023, with a January exit not ruled out.
But Jacobs said late last month that it was mainly Chelsea who were putting in the groundwork over a potential deal for Vlahovic and not other clubs.
Jacobs said in December: “It’s actually Chelsea, from a Premier League point of view, making the inquiries at this point, and we know that they need a striker as well.
“But I think everybody chasing Vlahovic needs to understand, is January possible, first and foremost, and then if it isn’t, what do they need to do to persuade him to move to the Premier League in January? And what can clubs learn from the Arsenal situation?
“And also, what is his injury situation? Because right now, if you get him in January, he’s got a groin problem that is still under investigation. But Chelsea are looking a bit more seriously at him and obviously a number of other strikers because of the Armando Broja situation.”
GiveMeSport transfer insider Dean Jones has shed a bit of light on the Vlahovic situation with Arsenal having a better chance of landing the former Fiorentina man in the summer.
“I’m still told the chances of getting Vlahovic in this window are slim to no chance,” Jones told GiveMeSport.
“But at the end of the season, if Arsenal maintain this kind of form they will be capable of pretty much anything in the transfer market.
“Juventus are very unsettled at the moment and I think there is a very real chance top talent will be available from them in the summer.”
