Arsenal ‘still trying to finalise one more deadline day deal’

Arsenal are working on one more transfer before the January transfer window slams shut at 11pm tonight, according to European football expert Guillem Balague.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for West Brom defender Jonny Evans throughout the window, while Schalke midfielder Max Meyer has emerged as a late target.

Balague wrote on Twitter: “By the way, I think Arsenal are still trying to get one more signing in January… if there is enough money for it.

“A second extra one could not be done as funds did not reach that far.”

Meyer has been the subject of a late transfer deadline day approach from Arsenal, according to reports in the German media.

The 22-year-old is out of contract at Schalke in the summer, and had looked on his way out last summer.

The likes of Tottenham and Liverpool had both been touted as potential destinations, but Schalke opted against selling the playmaker, with the player since becoming an integral part of Domenico Tedesco’s plans.

Leon Goretzka’s impending exit for Bayern has since seen Schalke offer him a new deal.

But with nothing yet signed, Bild are reporting the player has been the subject of a surprise approach from Arsenal on deadline day.

Another possible deadline day arrival could be Evans from West Brom, although reports in the Daily Star claim a deal could be a long shot with the £25million asking price looking expensive considering he could be available for £3million in the summer – if the Baggies are relegated.
