Arsenal are still interested in West Brom defender Jonny Evans but the Gunners have no intention of meeting West Brom’s asking price of £20million.

Arsene Wenger is keen to recruit a central defender before Wednesday’s transfer deadline, with both Arsenal and City keen on Evans.

City, however, appear to have focused their efforts on Athletic Bilbao centre-back Aymeric Laporte, allowing Arsenal a free run at the West Brom captain.

The Baggies reportedly want £20million for Evans, but Arsenal hope to be able to recruit the former Manchester United defender for a much lower fee.

The 30-year-old could reportedly be up for grabs for as little as £3million in the summer if West Brom are relegated and Arsenal believe they can negotiate a better deal.

The Gunners have reportedly caved into Borussia Dortmund’s demands over Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and reports suggest Wenger will have to offload Olivier Giroud before they can sign both of their targets before the 11pm deadline on Wednesday.
