Arsenal sweat on Sanchez ankle injury – report

Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez could miss the start of the season and leave the Gunners facing a potential striker crisis, according to reports.

Sanchez has received treatment throughout his summer break for an ankle injury sustained while on international duty at the Copa America Centenario.

The Daily Mail reports that Arsenal now fear that the Chile international could miss the start of the club’s Premier League campaign on August 14.

Arsene Wenger’s side are also likely to be without several other key players for the opener against Liverpool after they were given extended leave following their exploits at Euro 2016.

Olivier Giroud, Laurent Koscielny, Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey are not expected to report back until Monday August 8 – just six days before the new campaign gets underway.

With Danny Welbeck likely to be missing until spring 2017, it seems Theo Walcott could be their only striking option for the clash against the Reds.
