Reports in Spain have provided an update on interest from Premier League side Arsenal in Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey

Partey has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates as Mikel Arteta tries to strengthen his midfield.

The player has been an important part of Diego Simeone’s success with Atletico and the signing would be a great signal of intent from Arsenal and Arteta this summer.

And Sport (via Sport Witness) claims that Arsenal interest in Partey is ‘well known’ with Atletico demanding any club must pay his €50m release clause if they want to buy him.

‘Atletico fans live hours of uncertainty’ with Partey’s future at the club up in the air after Atletico recently rejected the Gunners offer of €25m plus Matteo Guendouzi.

The ‘siren songs’ coming from Arsenal and Juventus – who are also interested in a deal for Partey – means that Atletico are still ‘in suspense’

Meanwhile, Partey’s national team boss, Ghana manager Charles Akonnor, told the Daily Mirror on Sunday that the player should stick with Atletico.

“Honestly, I wouldn’t want him to move to Arsenal because with Atletico, he will always play Champions League football. His position is guaranteed and he will always play.

“With Arsenal, I’m not too sure. Arsenal fans will kill me [for saying he should not join them]. I hope that, and I’m sure money issues will come in, but I hope that whatever he asks for, Atletico will be able to pay.”
