Arsenal told to sign Rashford

Arsenal have been told that they should sign Manchester United star Marcus Rashford as he would “tick some really good boxes”.

Rashford leaving Man Utd was discussed during the summer with Ligue 1 side PSG understood to be among the clubs looking at him.

But the Englishman ended up remaining at Old Trafford and he has been one player who has benefitted from Erik ten Hag’s summer arrival from Ajax.

The forward has been involved in eight goals in 13 outings across all competitions after he struggled last term under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.

The 24-year-old’s long-term future remains in doubt somewhat. His contract is due to expire in 2023 but United do have the option to trigger an automatic one-year extension until 2024.

Earlier this month, Ten Hag suggested that they are not currently worrying too much about extending player contracts.

“At this moment we only think about performing,” Ten Hag said. “We have a lot of games to go, so I don’t want to get that interfered by talks.

“We have to focus on football, on performances, not on negotiating, that’s what we are doing now.”

When asked if expiring contracts be an incentive for players, Ten Hag added: “That is something for the head and some players get motivated when you play for a contract.

“But it is not the way why we handle it like this. We want to restore Man United, we want to develop the squad, develop the team and bring everything to a better level.

“We work on that way of play, also on the culture and we need, of course, quality players who are highly motivated.

“Such players we are looking for and luckily we have them in the squad, so I am quite happy with the squad. The way they work, the motivation they all have and I think the cooperation is quite good.”

Ex-Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell thinks his former club should try to capitalise on Rashford’s contract situation at United.

He has argued that Rashford would be a worthwhile signing for Arsenal as he can is a match-winner.

“He ticks some really good boxes for Arsenal,” Campbell told Football Insider.

“On the counter-attack, he can be devastating. He has undone Arsenal at Old Trafford earlier this season with his speed. Rashford can be devastating on his day, we know that.

“Manchester United are dithering by the sounds of it. I’m sure Arsenal would go for him if he became available next summer.

“He is an international player who has played on the big stages. He knows how to get games [won].

“That is what Arsenal lack sometimes. It would be great to have a player of his experience as part of the rotation.”
