Arsenal are ‘worried’ about making a third bid for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo despite some reports claiming a new offer will arrive today.

The Gunners have already had two bids turned down for the Ecuador international after his impressive performances for Brighton this season.

A report claimed yesterday that Arsenal were preparing a £75m off for Caicedo ahead of the transfer deadline as the Gunners look to test Brighton’s resolve.

However, the Daily Mail claim that Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu are ‘worried they could damage their relationship with Brighton if they make a third bid’.

Brighton have repeatedly outlined their stance to Arsenal in direct talks by insisting that Caicedo is ‘not for sale’ in the January transfer window.

Arsenal currently ‘have a good relationship’ with Brighton following the signings of Ben White from the Seagulls 18 months ago and Leandro Trossard earlier this window.

And ‘there is an acknowledgement behind the scenes at the Emirates that – as much as they want Caicedo – they don’t want to disrespect the south coast club.’

The Daily Mail adds:

‘As a result the Gunners have started analysing alternatives; with Chelsea midfielder Jorginho emerging as their preferred option. Leicester’s Youri Tielemans and Everton’s Amadou Onana among the players they have also explored.’

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also provided an update on the Caicedo situation and the possibility of the Brighton midfielder moving to Arsenal on deadline day.

Romano wrote in his Caught Offside column: “Arsenal have approached Chelsea for Jorginho. Moises Caicedo remains the priority but Brighton have absolutely no plan to change their stance, it’s really difficult. Jorginho is another option on the table; Serie A return has always been his priority, but he’d be open to join Arsenal.

“It’s up to Arsenal, if they want to proceed or not; he’s one of the player they have been considering in the last ten days. Chelsea are ready to let the Italy international go, but only for an important fee.”

Former Rangers striker Ally McCoist has major concerns about a potential move for Jorginho with the Scot fearing the Chelsea midfielder is “not mobile” enough for Arsenal.

“Not a good move for Arsenal,” McCoist said on talkSPORT. “There is some of that (the fact that I am a Chelsea fan). He’s not mobile or has high enough energy for Arsenal, at this moment in time.”

On whether Jorginho could be a bench player at Arsenal, McCoist added: “Are you telling me that you are signing from my team, as bench players? Is this what it’s come to?! Wow! Wow! (on the tables turning between Chelsea and Arsenal). Why would you sign him?!

“You have to sign players that would strengthen your team, if you can. I know you want a squad of 18.”
