Arsenal have suffered a potential hammer blow after Caglar Soyuncu admitted he “would love to play for” Atletico Madrid.
Soyuncu has emerged as Arsenal’s main transfer target this summer, with much of Unai Emery’s reported £70million budget dedicated to signing the Freiburg centre-half.
Manchester City have been linked with the 22-year-old in recent months, with the Turkey international attracting interest from Europe’s top clubs.
He admits a move to Atletico would be particularly appealing.
“My friends who play in Spain tell me it is a fantastic competition,” Soyuncu told BeIn Sports.
“I watch La Liga games and from what Emre Colak, Enes Unal and Emre Mor have told me, it is a league I would love to play in.
“Atletico Madrid are a really strong team, very well-organised and they have a lot of ambition, a lot of potential.
“They deserved the Europa League title and would be a club I would love to play for.”
