Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is a major doubt for next weekend’s game against Newcastle.
The Uruguayan central midfielder is yet to start for Arsenal since his summer move from Sampdoria, but has impressed from the bench.
The indication from Unai Emery was that Torreira was not yet up to full fitness, so it was surprising that he started Uruguay’s friendly against Mexico.
Torreira was substituted at half-time of the game and appeared on the bench in the second half wearing an ice pack on his leg.
The Sun report that Torreira is now likely to miss the game against Newcastle in the Premier League, but could be fit to start in the Europa League the following Thursday.
However, there must be a question about whether Torreira is rested for the Premier League, given Arsenal’s problems in that position.
