Hertha Berlin midfielder Omar Rekik is set for a medical at Arsenal after the clubs reportedly agreed a fee for the player.

The Tunisian is seen as one of African’s brightest talents and almost signing for the Premier League club over the summer.

While yet to make his debut for the Bundesliga side, the Gunners have been tracking his development for some time. Indeed, they apparently came close to signing him in the summer, only for time to beat them.

And now they look to have secured his signature ahead of the January transfer window with the 18-year-old set to become their first signing of the winter.

Bild claim that Rekik has been given permission to ‘take all medical tests’ ahead of a move to England.

The fee is understood to be ‘around £600,000’ with Mikel Arteta and Arsenal academy coach Per Mertesacker finally succeeding in their ‘next attempt’ to land Rekik.

Despite it being ‘initially planned’ that he would be used primarily for the under 23s, Rekik will be ‘given the chance to train with the professionals.’

A previous report in The Metro claimed that the transfer is believed to form part of Hertha’s loan deal for midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.

Meanwhile, Arteta said successive wins against Chelsea and Brighton would not alter his transfer plans and remained tight-lipped on potential targets.

“The last few results won’t change our approach to the window and obviously we cannot talk about an individual player,” he said when asked about reported interest in Real Madrid playmaker Isco.
