Mikel Arteta has earmarked Real Madrid star Isco as a key January transfer target for Arsenal, according to reports in Spain.
Arsenal were busy during the summer transfer window. They purchased long-term target Thomas Partey on deadline day after triggering his £44.5m release clause.
Earlier in the window, they also signed Gabriel, Pablo Mari, Willian and Cedric Soares. The Gunners have had an indifferent start to the season, as they sit 12th after nine games.
They have picked up victories over Manchester United, Fulham, Sheffield United and West Ham United. But they have also fallen to defeats to Manchester City, Leicester City, Liverpool and Aston Villa.
Last time out they were held to a 0-0 draw to Leeds United, as Nicolas Pepe was sent off early into the second half.
Arteta already has his eyes on the January window. Spanish outlet Defensa Central have reported that Arteta has instructed his board to target Real Madrid midfielder Isco.
The reports adds that Arsenal would prefer an initial loan deal with an option to buy in the summer. It also suggests that a stumbling block to the deal happening could be that Madrid prefers a permanent deal instead of a loan.
Isco joined Real Madrid in 2013 from Malaga for around €30m. He has made over 200 appearances for the Spanish giants in that time.
But his game time has decreased of late. The midfielder has only made three starts this term, so a move away is looking ever more likely.
Liverpool were meant to run out of steam. David Moyes wasn’t supposed to still be in a job. Oops.
