Real Madrid forward Lucas Vazquez will not be allowed to leave the Bernabeu after Marco Asensio suffered a serious injury, according to reports.

Asensio has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and looks set to be sidelined for at least six months.

The LaLiga club announced on Wednesday that the 23-year-old Spain international will undergo surgery.

Asensio was rushed to hospital during the 2-2 International Champions Cup draw with Arsenal in Washington on Tuesday night.

Vazquez has been linked with a possible move to Arsenal over the summer transfer window with the club looking to stretch it’s small transfer budget.

Spanish daily AS claimed back at the beginning of the month that Vazquez ‘could be closed early next week’. Two weeks on and he is still at Real Madrid.

And now AS (via Sport Witness) have an update, with the publication claiming that Asensio’s injury will see Los Blancos limit their outgoings this summer.

That means Arsenal’s pursuit of Vazquez ‘has stopped’ as Real will not allow him to move with the Spaniard prepared for increased minutes under Zinedine Zidane because of his team-mate’s unfortunate injury.
