Jurgen Klopp wants Liverpool to sign Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio this summer, according to reports in Spain.

The 26-year-old was in and out of Carlo Ancelotti’s team last season as Los Blancos won La Liga, the Spanish Super Cup and the Champions League.

Asensio made 19 starts and 12 substitute appearances in the league but did manage to impress in a number of matches with ten goals to his name.

Since moving from Real Mallorca in 2014 for €3.9m, the Spain international has bagged 49 goals in 235 appearances in all competitions for Real Madrid.

But his time at the Bernabeu could now be over with reported interest from a number of clubs around Europe, including Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United.

A report on Monday indicated that Asensio was ‘waiting to see’ if Liverpool make a concrete offer for his services before deciding his future.

And now Spanish newspaper Sport (via Sport Witness) claim today that ‘Liverpool like Asensio’ with AC Milan pulling out of the race to sign him, for now.

As previously reported, Asensio’s asking price is now €30m this summer as Real Madrid look to make a sale after dropping their demands by €20m.

It is understood that Klopp has ‘requested his signing’ this summer despite reports that their deal for Calvin Ramsay would be their last of the summer with Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez also signed.

Asensio ‘looks favourably’ on a move to Liverpool and would even reduce his wage demands to seal a transfer to Anfield this summer.

Meanwhile, former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell thinks Liverpool did the right thing by sealing a new contract for “untouchable” Mo Salah.

Campbell told Football Insider: “100 per cent. There is no doubt about it. You could say that there has been no better player in the world than him over the past 12 months. For three-quarters of last season he was untouchable. Let’s be honest, he was untouchable.

“He just keeps improving. Fair enough, he is 30 but he does not play like he is slowing down. He plays like he is on warp speed. The guy is incredible. Liverpool were always going to push the chips his way after [Sadio] Mane left. I think it is right. He deserves it.

“He has been incredible for Liverpool. It was one or the other as to who got the big contract. Salah has been so instrumental. I think it is a really good bit of business from Liverpool.”
