Diego Simeone has responded to claims that Atletico Madrid could re-sign Diego Costa in January.
Costa is almost certain to never play for Chelsea again, having been informed by manager Antonio Conte that he is not part of the club’s long-term plans this summer.
Alvaro Morata has since arrived at Stamford Bridge as his replacement, although Costa seems no closer to his exit.
Chinese Super League clubs and AC Milan have been linked with the 28-year-old, but his most likely destination is former club Atletico.
Costa left the Spanish side in 2014 to join Chelsea, and although Atletico’s transfer ban prevents them from registering any new players before January, they can sign them but not play them.
That could be the solution to Costa’s problems, but Simeone offered little in the way of confirmation on Monday.
“All the players want to stay, they want to achieve even better goals and get even better,” he said.
“Diego Costa? If he comes in January… we can’t say anything about that yet.
“I won’t speak about him now. He is a player of Chelsea. We will talk about the boys who are here now, because we have a late start to the season. That is what is important.”
