Tottenham right-back Matt Doherty carries the ball at his feet

Atletico Madrid are set to sign Tottenham right-back Matt Doherty on loan until the end of the season, according to reports.

Spurs are active on transfer deadline day with David Ornstein confirming yesterday that Tottenham and Sporting Lisbon had finally agreed a fee for the transfer of Pedro Porro.

The Spaniard is set for his medical at Tottenham today as they look to get the deal over the line with Football.London reporter Alasdair Gold insisting that it will be an initial loan with the obligation to buy for €45m.

And that means they can allow other full-backs to leave with Doherty, who signed from Wolves in 2020, moving to La Liga giants Atletico Madrid on loan until the end of the season.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano insists that there is “no buy option clause included” in the deal to sign Doherty with Porro set to arrive in his place.

Romano wrote on Twitter: “Atlético Madrid are set to sign Matt Doherty on loan deal from Tottenham, here we go! Agreement in place — no buy option clause included. #Atléti #THFC Medical booked for Doherty who’s set to leave as Porro will join Tottenham — first call, @marca.”

Another right-back that will be leaving before the transfer deadline tonight is Djed Spence after only making six appearances in all competitions since signing from Middlesbrough in the summer.

And Romano has confirmed that Spence has completed his medical as a Rennes player and will join on loan until the end of the season.

“Djed Spence has completed medical tests ahead of his loan move to Rennes with contracts now set to be signed #THFC #DeadlineDay Loan deal won’t include any clause or buy option. Spence, convinced of his long term future at Tottenham.”

Former Crystal Palace star Darren Ambrose thinks Harry Kane will be “licking his lips” at the thought of playing with Porro for the remainder of the campaign.

Ambrose said on talkSPORT: “Pedro Porro, for me, is what we need. I think, the right-back position, we’ve not really got it right since the Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier.”

“I was watching clips of him, and he just looks exciting. His delivery looks fantastic. I think if Harry Kane is seeing that, he’ll be licking his lips thinking; ‘If I can get some of those crosses that he puts in, I’m going to get a few goals’.

“I’d be delighted with (Porro). The right-side has struggled in recent years. Hopefully we can get that one over the line.”
