To save you the bother of reading all the latest Aubameyang to Arsenal updates…
KICKER: Let’s Kicker off (hahahaha) with news from the German daily. They report that negotiations between Arsenal and Dortmund over Aubameyang are ‘threatening to burst’ and ‘have now stalled’. That doesn’t sound too good. And Dortmund ‘are increasingly angry’ with Arsenal for essentially p*ssing about. The talks have been too ‘slow’, and the German side are losing patience.
Dortmund value Aubameyang at around £61.3m, but Arsenal’s first offer was only of £43.8m, with £4.3m in add-ons. Their second bid was ‘only marginally’ higher, which does sound an awful lot like Arsenal. It has left Dortmund ‘not pleased’ with the Gunners, who are being accused of ‘stalling tactics’.
In a further blow to the deal, Dortmund are only willing to part with £1.3m in a loan fee for Olivier Giroud. It all combines for one result: ‘An agreement is currently more questionable than ever.’
BILD: The German newspaper leads off on something of a controversy brewing in the country, and Kicker are involved again. One of their journalists was criticised for describing Aubameyang’s recent behaviour as a ‘monkey circus’ last week, which obviously brings with it unnecessary connotations. It may have been intended as ‘monkey business’, or another phrase to point out the ‘crazy’ nature of the situation, but still.
Aubameyang responded on Instagram, as did his father. The latter, Pierre Senior, accused the journalist of trying to ‘bring us back to the Hitler era’. Oh my.
The Kicker journalist has apologised and Aubameyang’s father has since deleted his comment, but a week on, Bild are still headlining their front page with the ‘Hitler’ stuff. They are not happy with Aubameyang’s father. Strong work. Sport Witness break the whole thing down much better.
Bild’s headline news on Friday accuses Aubameyang’s father – also his agent, just to clarify – of playing ‘tricks’. He is the ‘puppet-master’, the man solely responsible for the striker’s ‘change of heart’. ‘‘The head of the family is the driving force behind the transfer to Arsenal,’ they say. It’s all a bit murky.
DAILY STAR: A Paul Brown (us neither) exclusive brings us the massive news that Arsenal will have to break their club-record transfer fee to sign Aubameyang. We’re pretty sure everyone accepted this as fact anyway.
One piece of interesting information comes halfway through their article, however. It is claimed that Arsenal ‘are willing to let it go down right down to the wire’ in the hope of bringing Dortmund’s demands down. That is an absolutely genius plan; it absolutely will not work.
DAILY MAIL: The stuff about Giroud is interesting. A number of British outlets report that talks have broken down between Dortmund and Arsenal over the Frenchman. Let’s look at what the Daily Mail are saying.
Talks have ‘hit an impasse’ over Giroud, who is now ‘assessing other options’. Aubameyang is still trying to push his move to Arsenal through regardless, and so Dortmund are considering a move for Michy Batshuayi as his replacement.
