Gareth Bale has revealed what he said to Liverpool keeper Loris Karius immediately after the Champions League final.
The Liverpool keeper committed a couple of howlers either side of Bale’s brilliant overhead-kick to allow Real Madrid to win their third consecutive European Cup with a 3-1 win in Kiev.
Bale’s second goal – Real’s third – came after Karius let the Welshman’s long-range effort slip through his grasp.
“I always try to put a bit of wobble on the ball,” Bale told the Daily Mail.
“It’s the same with free-kicks. You try to make it more difficult because if it doesn’t go in the corner I always give them a problem if it’s right down their throat.”
Although few Liverpool players consoled Karius immediately after the final whistle, Bale was one of a few Real stars to make time for the German goalkeeper.
“I just said, ‘Keep your head up’,” he says. “Mistakes happen. It’s just unfortunate it’s in a final
“Yes, I suppose it’s not quite as bad as it looked but I suppose he should save it.”
