Barcelona see their pursuit of Marcus Rashford as ‘like wanting to date Cindy Crawford’.
Manchester United striker Rashford was named on Tuesday morning as one of three options that Barca are considering to replace Luis Suarez.
Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo believe Barca will follow the advice of their former striker Patrick Kluivert in trying to sign the England international, whose contract wranglings with United continue.
Some seem to be quite confused as to why United are about to trigger the one-year extension in Rashford’s current deal, keeping him at Old Trafford until 2021.
But that is part of the reason that Barca view the forward as an unattainable target.
ESPN say the Spanish club are ‘realistic about their chances’ of prising Rashford away from his boyhood club, and that United feel there is ‘no chance’ they will let him go.
‘A high-ranking executive’ at the Nou Camp has even compared the deal to ‘like wanting to date Cindy Crawford or a supermodel – it’s unlikely to happen’.
The source continued: “We don’t want to approach a player that still has a contract with Manchester United. He’s a great player but has [18 months] to run on his contract at Old Trafford.
“Even though it seems talks over a renewal have stopped for now, I’m sure United will try to convince him [to stay] however they can. He’s one of the pillars of their future.”
