Barcelona have reportedly ended their pursuit of Tottenham star Giovani Lo Celso after their loan proposal was quickly rejected.

Ange Postecoglou has done a good job of rebuilding the Tottenham squad so far and they have had a positive start to the new season.

Despite the loss of Harry Kane, Spurs have looked sharp in the final third so far as they’ve hit the back of the net four times in their opening two matches.

Plenty of movement is expected at Tottenham between now and the end of the transfer window as several players could still depart.

Having spent last season out on loan with Villarreal, Lo Celso’s future in North London is currently up in the air.

It recently came to light that Barcelona were interested in signing the 27-year-old, but they have been unsuccessful in their attempt.

According to Toni Juanmarti, Barcelona’s loan offer for Lo Celso was quickly rejected by Spurs and the Spanish club now see this deal as a ‘dead end’.

The 27-year-old has also been linked with a return to Villarreal, but for the time being he remains a Tottenham player. His current deal in North London runs until 2025 and time will tell if he does stick around.

Postecoglou seems happy enough to keep the midfielder around as he was quick to praise the Argentine international during pre-season.

“I’m really happy with Gio,” Postecoglou told reporters during pre-season. “He’s been really good in training. You can see he’s a quality player and I think the way we play suits him.

“I’ve enjoyed working with him and I think he’s enjoying himself in terms of the football we want to play and yeah it’s going well.”

While the midfielder impressed during pre-season, he is yet to feature in a competitive match under Postecoglou. In the opening two Premier League matches Lo Celso has been an unused substitute.

Tottenham’s current midfield trio of Pape Matar Sarr, Yves Bissouma and James Maddison seems to have a nice balance to it.

It will be Lo Celso’s aim to fight his way into the starting 11, but there is plenty of competition in the Spurs midfield at this point.
