Barnes wants Liverpool to draw Bayern or Real Madrid

John Barnes would like Liverpool to be drawn against Real Madrid or Bayern Munich over Roma in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

The Reds comfortably progressed to the semis with a 5-1 aggregate victory over Manchester City, while Roma overturned a 4-1 loss in their first leg to go through on away goals against Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Real and Bayern are likely to progress as they both take leads into their home legs against Juventus and Sevilla respectively.

The draw will be held at midday on Friday and former Liverpool midfielder Barnes would fancy Jurgen Klopp’s sides more against a side with a big reputation.

“I always fancy Liverpool against big teams,” Barnes told Express Sport.

“In many respects, I would much rather play Bayern Munich or Real Madrid than Roma.

“Roma are quite defensive, they’re strong, they’re physical.

“When we play against teams who play an open game like Man City and Arsenal do then we come out on top.

“We can see when we play against teams, although Man Utd aren’t a team like West Brom, the way Man Utd approached the game against us they did sit back and defend and allow us to have all the possession and they don’t attack us so that we can’t counter attack, we don’t do particularly well.

“As perverse as it may sound, I’d rather play Bayern Munich or Real Madrid than Roma.”
