German side Bayer Leverkusen have joined the race to sign Man Utd’s Brandon Williams in January, according to a report.

Williams has been linked with a loan move away from Old Trafford following the arrival of left back Alex Telles.

He is also having to compete with compatriot Luke Shaw in the position, meaning his game time has been reduced.

According to The Telegraph, Leverkusen want to bring in Williams to give them extra support on either side of defence.

The report states that Williams is attractive to potential clubs due to his ability to play at left back and right back.

Leverkusen have been in good form in the Bundesliga this season. They currently sit top of the league after 12 matches, one point ahead of returning champions Bayern Munich.

Joining Leverkusen could prove to be a great move for Williams and his development. They are known for trusting in talented young players, including Leon Bailey and new Chelsea signing Kai Havertz.

However, they aren’t the only team interested in the 20-year-old. He’s also been linked with Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United.

Ralph Hasenhuttl and Southampton are known to be big admirers of the defender, as they tried to bring him in last season.

They failed, however, and could return in January to get their man.

Williams has made 41 appearances for United in all competitions since breaking into the first team.

He’s seen as a great player for the future, which is why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is refusing to sell him permanently.

The manager isn’t ruling out a loan move though. When asked about one, he told reporters: “Brandon has done really well since he came into the team. He had a slow start to the season for different reasons.

“I think he’s now coming back to himself. I can see more Brandon being Brandon again. I’ve enjoyed seeing him, I’ve enjoyed him more in training.

“He’s played a couple of U23s games, so he’s been more involved. That’s something we’ll look at in January but we highly rate Brandon so whoever’s interested they’re not wrong.”
